Getting started

  • What does ThaiDai actually teach?

A curated Thai vocabulary deck for English speakers — currently 2,400+ entries and growing toward 3,000, plus a native-trained Thai voice on every word, eight grammar lessons, and 15 scripted dialogues. The voice and editorial register are aimed at people who actually live in or visit Thailand — not classroom Thai. Live counts on /stats.

  • Do I need to know any Thai before I start?

No. The free tier covers 172 daily-survival essentials and includes the foundational lessons (greetings, polite particles, numbers, basic verbs). The /resources hub has a free getting-started guide that walks through the daily-practice loop.

  • How long does it take to learn enough Thai to be useful?

Three to six months of daily practice gets you to "useful in Thailand" — ordering food, taking taxis, basic shop transactions. Six to twelve months gets you to conversational. We have a longer write-up in /resources/how-long-to-learn-thai.

Pricing + tiers

  • What does the free tier include?

172 daily-survival essentials including audio, the full /resources article library, all eight grammar lessons, four free dialogues, and the daily-practice loop with a 20-card daily cap. Free is genuinely usable, not a teaser.

  • What does Pro unlock?

The full corpus (currently 2,400+ entries, growing to 3,000), all 15 dialogues, no daily cap, and any future content (we ship roughly bi-weekly). Pro is $14.99 monthly, $99 annually, or $199 lifetime. The tier explainer at /resources/how-tiers-work covers it in detail.

  • Is there a refund?

30-day no-questions-asked refund on any plan. After 30 days, refunds are at our discretion — usually fine if the reason is reasonable.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

Card payments via Stripe (Visa, Mastercard, Amex). Apple Pay and Google Pay also work via Stripe. We don't store card details — Stripe handles that.

Audio + pronunciation

  • Where does the audio come from?

A native-trained Thai voice. We pre-cache the free-tier audio and generate Pro audio on first request, then cache it. The voice is consistent across the corpus so the audio sounds like one speaker, not a patchwork.

  • Do you have a male voice option?

Currently female voice only. Male voice is on the roadmap (PR 15 in the workstream docs) — we want to ship a high-quality second voice rather than a quick-and-dirty option.

Account + data

  • Why magic-link only? Why no password?

Passwords get reused, leaked, and forgotten. A magic link is one-shot, expires in 15 minutes, and means we never store a password. The trade-off is a small friction on every sign-in — for a learning app you use most days, that's fine.

  • Can I export my progress?

Yes. /settings → Export account data downloads a JSON file with your word_progress, lesson mastery, streak, XP, and any account metadata. We don't use it ourselves; it's for you.

  • How do I delete my account?

/settings → Delete account. Cascades all per-user rows (word_progress, sessions, lesson_mastery). Stripe billing records are retained for accounting, per UK / EU law. If you're mid-subscription, cancel via Stripe first or contact support.

  • Do you sell my data? Use it for AI training?

No to both. We don't sell, share, or use anyone's usage data for training third-party models. The only third party that touches your email is Resend (transactional sends) and Stripe (billing). The /privacy page covers exact data flows.

Technical + product

  • Is there an iOS / Android app?

Not yet. The web app is mobile-friendly and works as a PWA — you can add it to your home screen. Native apps are post-launch, after we've validated the web product.

  • Why does my deck reset every day?

It doesn't — your progress is permanent. The 20-card daily cap on free is a fresh slice of your unlocked vocabulary chosen by spaced repetition, not a reset. Pro removes the cap.

  • I found a bug / wrong tone / typo. What do I do?

Use /contact below. Include the word ID or article slug if possible. We fix tone errors fast — wrong tone is wrong word, and that is a learner-facing problem we take seriously.
